Good news in my inbox this morning. Every last detail of Return to Labyrinth 3 has been approved by Henson and the book is off to the printers! A big thank you to Bryce P. Coleman for picking up the editing reigns on volume 3 and bringing ‘er home, despite tough circumstances.
Meanwhile, the annual Bookscan Graphic Novel Report debate still rages on over at The Beat. While most of the commentary tends to focus on superheroes, art comics and Naruto, I was pleased to see that in the actual list, Return to Labyrinth vol. 1 and 2 did very good numbers last year, even though there was no new volume. The series clearly has legs. Who would have guessed that a little sequel to a cult-classic fantasy film would turn into one of Tokyopop’s biggest hits? Thanks to everyone who’s picked up the book, and thanks for your patience in waiting for volume 3. We’re almost there!
And one last thing — Chris Lie, the talented artist of Return to Labyrinth, has a new website for his studio. Check it out to see what he’s been up to when he’s not drawing goblins.
UPDATE: Finally Amazon has the proper cover for Return to Labyrinth 3. Now you can see it with the logo and everything!

If vol 3 going to the printers, will we still have to wait for May to buy it? I can’t wait to read it and yet, waiting for vol 4 is going to be even worse than waiting for vol 3…
From the time a file is sent to when the books are boxed and ready to ship to distributors takes about a month (give or a week or two), then there’s the process of getting from the printer to the distributors warehouses then to retail or fulfillment. Plus there’s the matter of street dates — books aren’t as enforced as carefully as games or music, but some stores might hold on to them until a publicized date. Don’t quote me on this, but I expect it will probably be in people’s hands in April, although it might take until May until it’s on every shelf.
Sweet! I have mine pre-ordered from an online store that usually ships stuff when they get it, no matter the street date. Here’s hoping it’ll get to me early!
According to Amazon, paperback will be on stock in May 12, two days after my birthday. Can’t wait!
Oh my gosh, this just made my day. I’m so happy to hear that Volume 3 is on its way.
Good to hear that everything’s been approved, I’m forward to getting my copy…Not only for the story, but for the sheer fact that I haven’t bought manga in over a year! None of the manga I read have any new volumes out until the summer, so hopefully RtL comes out early!
And tell Chris that I like his new website, it’s definantly easy to navigate and looks very professional. And it’s nice that for an Artisy company, that the focus is on the art instead of there being a wall of words as soon as you hit the site.
*high pitched scream of delight and happy dance*
Squeeeee!
Golly, I’m so excited!
Of course the series has legs. Though, I have a question Jake. And, I think this has to do with the addition of the fourth volume. But, wth was the goblin golf course? Did that just go on back burner or something?
Anyway, congrats! I’m really excited to read this. And seeing how quickly the months are going by, it won’t be long.
re: Andi,
I did talk about the goblin minigolf at comicon a few years back, didn’t I? That was originally in the volume 2 script, but before there were 4 volumes, I needed to pick up pacing and it got cut early on, sorta replaced with the polo game. Considering how the plot’s evolved, I don’t think it will fit in, but I’d still love to do it as a stand alone story. Who knows? Thanks for reminding me!

I got to do the final QC on it (so any remaining typos can be blamed on me), and it was awesome.
Thanks, Lil’! I really must go down to LA celebrate with you and Bryce and the folks when it’s back from the printer.
OMG im sooo excited now ^.^..so happy to hear that it is off to the printers that means its closer than we think *squeals*..May/April time o___o wow its that close already!!!
Well, in truth, I think the movie was made at the wrong time, which was why it became an occult movie. Were it to be made now, and dulled down a bit on the whole “kidnapped babe” thing, it would be a really good fantasy in the eyes of its viewers.
Thank you for the information Jake. I expect this new volume will arrive in Spain this year or as soon as possible.
Congrats! I’m looking forward to reading it. Maybe we’ll get lucky and the economy will turn around in time for Vol. 4.
The cover looks absolutely incredible. I think it’s the best cover yet!
Ooooh! I’m so excited!!! APRIL?!? YESSS!!! *dances with joy* I know a store that always puts them out as soon as they get them, so I’m so happy! *squee*
And the cover art is amazing, just as Maggie said! It’s absolutely gorgeous. I wonder what the fourth volume cover will look like?
ooh, will there be another contest?
I dunno. I hope so, seeing as how I missed the other one. -.-U
Yay, that’s good news ^_^ It was by a mere chance that I found this series whilst perusing the manga section at the book store (the word “Labyrinth” always catches my eye) I picked it up, looked through a bit, put it back down, walked away then, after some thought, came back and bought it.
I don’t care how broke I am … missing supper a few times is worth getting volume 3.
A contest would be fun. I’ll see if I can get a copy or two to give out as prizes next month. Stay tuned!
*le gasp!* FREE COPIES?! *faints*
Oh, wow… *pours water on Kendra to wake her up*. Free copies! That would be awesome.
I would really like to get in on the free copies thing, but how could we guess the cover of the fourth book without knowing what the story is in the third? Not that I’m really complaining, I’d give it a shot anyway, but I still think the wait-and-see idea would be better, and the price could be changed to advance volume four copies? *crosses fingers in hope*
Oh man, I can’t wait until MAY!!!!
free!!!! any way, now that I’m going to get it for my b-day.
