First the good news. On the resolution front, several serendipitous leads are making my list of writing goals look surprisingly realistic! Still too early to announce anything, but the past few weeks have been very productive indeed.
Now for the bad news — I’m a total spaz when over-caffeinated, and spaz + laptop + hot mug o’ coffee = an $800 blunder. Fortunately, I don’t think there’s anything critical that’s lost, but for the next couple weeks I’m going to have to spend most of my time writing the old-fashioned way.

Ouch =( That’s why I tend to avoid coffee at all possible costs, it brings nothing but bad luck
Golly. That sucks, Jake. I’ve done that with my keyboard and I ended up having to use the on-screen keyboard for a couple months. I know how it feels when a computer craps out on you because of clumsiness. Hopefully you’ll get it refurbished soon (and in time for the RtL release!).
I just dropped an off-page f-bomb for you. That sucks.
That’s no fun. And on a laptop, too! My old computer crapped out on us over the summer and it took a month to replace it, so I know how you feel. All of my writing on that computer was lost, too. D:
Dude, that sucks. I tried writing old-style, and it took me forever, you have my pity.
Holy cow! I think I would shrivel without my laptop! It’s my only portal to the internet (~because my PC doesn’t have updated virus software; I don’t connect to the “net” on that.) My laptop is also the perfect prop for my drawing board when I’m drawing and multi-tasking everything else.
Yes, basically, I’m a secondary candidate for an $800 lesson myself…
I hope the job search “thing” is working out and good luck with the manual writing. (I stink at writing, either way, so I’ll just shutter over here in the corner somewhere reading my English Grammar for Dummies Book.)
Most likely the hard drive is still functional and you can put it in an external hard drive case and use it with a future replacement laptop.
Thanks for the advice, Bryn! I hope so as the one thing I don’t have backed up is the last years worth of music downloads (which is close to the cost of the laptop itself!)
I can give you some sites for free music downloads if you want so that you don’t have to re-buy them all
Oh, and to all the fans out there, I made a short movie trailer for RTL using clips from various movies, so just click on my name and the trailer is the first on the list of the videos I’ve posted, hope you all enjoy it!
Sorry to hear about that. That’s the bad thing about laptops: Mess up one component and the whole thing could be shot. At least you could probably replace a keyboard if it were a PC, I think.
I’ve dumped more liquid on a standard desktop keyboard with no ill effects. Yes, laptops + liquid is an unfairly costly combination. I would be more morose, but I’ve already got a sexy new Dell Studio laptop on order. From now on, coffee goes on a side table — not next to keyboard! Must tighten those pursestrings now that I’m a fulltime writer.
Nice video, Mollie! Very cool; all of the clips you used from other movies fit perfectly with the story. I could definitely see the White Witch as Mizumi, Queen of Cups.
