Let’s try something new on gobblin.net. There’s been a lot of intense discussions going on over the past two weeks concerning the mysteries of Return to Labyrinth, and as I don’t want to spoil the secrets or write off red herrings, I’m loathe to participate much. Maybe you have a Return to Labyrinth question or two of a less spoilery nature, a question about the writing process, or a question completely unrelated to all things goblinesque. Now’s your chance to ask!
Leave any questions you’d like to ask me in the column below and I’ll start answering them in a new blog post in a few days. Please do not use this post as a place for discussion — save that for the answer column. Even if another person’s questions seems obvious to you, don’t worry — i’ll try to answer in an interesting way. And for now, please try to limit your questions to one or two per person. If this goes well, we can always have a round 2!

I have one, and I apologize if it’s been asked before (I just learned of your blog recently), but why did Jareth have his own font in volume one?
Here is my question: At one point, there was something about the ‘goblin golf course’. What was that all about?
1. Is this the only Labyrinth manga series that will be done ? I remember something about side stories and such, but I’m hoping for a series that takes place after this. But one that is devoted to Jareth and Sarah.
2. Has Chris Lie see Labyrinth ? If so, does he like the movie ?
Thanks Jake!

Oooh, so many questions! And you’re making us choose only one or two? This is hard! AGGHH! Umm…
1. Is there any chance of Return to Labyrinth gaining an animated adaptation and if so will David Bowie be asked to voice Jareth?
2. I have a strong feeling that the story of the exiled goblin’s earlier betrayal is kind of important to the back story. Am I right?
And just because I know everyone wants to know this… What is the name of the goblin that keeps eating my missing left socks?
What is it about Sarah that is so special that Jareth fell in love with her, and is still consumed with her? Will we ever get any information or see what exactly made him fall in love with her?
That’s my lot!
Just up to three questions??? Gahh!!!
Okay, um…
1. I was wondering if you and Chris Lie choose what goblins to use (in the background or otherwise) from Mr. Brian Froude’s notes for the movie? Because I bought a copy of Goblins of the Labyrinth and Candlewic was in there, though he’s undergone quite the makeover since then… Or are they all just thought up on the top of your heads?
2. Does Toby EVER get his history paper back? I don’t know if that’s spoilerific or not, but I really just had to ask… I know how vexing it is when you can’t find your homework! Poor Toby!
3. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the Escher room… Will we see any more of it in the story, or any other optical illusions? I know there have been a few throughout the series (and I loved them, by the way), and I’d really like to see more.
Thanks!
1. What inspired you to write RtL (besides being a fan of the movie)?
2. Does Moppet have blonde or white hair?
3. If you could give any character in the labyrinth (manga series or movie) a hug, who would it be?
Ooo…this will be fun!
1. Who was your favorite character to draw/create? It can be one of the main ones, I’m just interested which one is your favorite.
2. What inspired you to do this line of work in the first place? (I ask this b/c I’m having to decide of major and am very interested in this type of thing.)
3. If you could change one thing about the RtL series (from the first 3 volumes) so far, what would it be and why?
I loved this movie since I was three! Ok, 1 Q for the great artist Chris Lee that I know EVERY fangirl that watched the movie wanys to know:
1.) Why are there no crotch bulges? That’s what made Jareth the super hot Goblin King in the movie! The manga is rated T for teen but it seems more PG than PG-13.
2. Does Toby EVER get his history paper back? I don’t know if that’s spoilerific or not, but I really just had to ask… I know how vexing it is when you can’t find your homework! Poor Toby!
I need to know this answer, too! I hope he gets his paper back, and that play at the beginning of the story has an important part to all of this.
So, that’d be another question of mine: Does that play at the beginning of the volume have an important significance to everything?
I guess my questions are just kind of technical-
1. Do you as the writer get to dictate the layout- ie “In the first panel draw a picture of Toby looking confused, then in the next one draw him running” or is what you write more of a movie script and some one else puts it together?
2. How do you describe the characters so Chris Lie knows what to draw?
Thanks!
1. How much of your day-to-day wardrobe is Labyrinth-inspired, or otherwise Bowie-fied?
2. What is Jareth’s favorite Morrissey song?
Can we see some Bogging action in the next volume? Mainly for her watery royal-hyness or the stray chicken?
1.) How much input and control does the Henson company have and who do you talk to about your ideas?
2.) How hard was it to get them to get on board with your first proposal?
3) what inspired you tackle the Labyrinth?
I don’t have any questions about RtL 3, frankly because I’ve been unable to find myself a copy of it (That’s the downfall of being on the best seller list), but I do have some general Labyrinth queries:
1. If you could own a prop/outfit/set piece from the Labyrinth movie, what would it be? (I’m particularily fond of Sarah’s music box, which was apparently designed by Wendy Froud)
2. Would you ever consider letting all of us design goblins to use in the background of the next volume? (Or is there a bunch of legal gobbledy-gook that would prevent this?)
My questions are:
1. How did you come up with Mizumi and her two daughters/ablations? I love hearing how she was developed.
2. How often do you write? Do you have a set time each day? And how do you personally deal with writer’s block?
3. What’s your view on RtL fan-fiction and what are the craziest examples you’ve read?
Question: Wasn’t there a contest for someone to be featured in the book as a Goblin? :\ Or am I just high on something (like a Peach) and I came up with that myself?
how many return to the labyrinth books will there be?
What kind of tune does the poem/song that Jareth sings in return to the labyrinth 3 when he is following Sarah? Is it similair to whithin you or more different. i’m trying to figure out a tune for it when i read it but I have a hard time.
What’s the size limit on volumes? Can you make volume 4 larger than volume 3? And finally, what are the odds of spinoffs/continuations of this series once volume 4 is complete? Hmmm…I guess that wasn’t subtle at all.
Oh jeez, I have almost a page of questions, but, I guess these two are my most mind nagging:
1.) Is Sarah ever going to meet Ludo, Hoggle, and Sir Didymus again?
2.) What IS Jareth exactly? Or if you don’t know, what do you think he is? I’ve read a lot of fanfiction in which it describes him as being one of the fae, but I’m not too sure. The only thing I’m pretty certain of is that he’s not a normal human (no one is supposed to glitter that much – except for Edward Cullen, but he’s a sparkly, bloodsucking pixie boy, so he doesn’t count).
Anyway, thanks for your time.
Okay, so these are a little late, but I haven’t been on in a while, so:
1- What has Ludo been doing since Sarah left the Labyrinth? Since we know that Hoggle became Prince of the Land of Stench, and that Sir Didymus was ever the valiant knight, I’d love to know how his story continued.
2- Was there never any backlash for Sir Didymus of Ludo’s helping of Sarah? Since Hoggle was punished, it just would seem more fitting that the blame be somewhat shared.
3- If the Labyrinth is a manifestation of Jareth’s will, why is it still being built by the bug-thing in Volume 1, and does he ever come back into play?
More movie-related, I guess, but I still would love to know your theories.
Ok here’s a couple of questions…
Can Sarah or anyone from the human world see Jareth’s eye markings? Does he hide them when he’s in the human world or are they in there so readers can identify him?
In the novelization and according to the song “Within You” part of what Jareth wants from Sarah is for her to believe in him so that he may become a real being and not just exist within her fantasy. Though Sarah renounces the power Jareth holds over her it does appear she actually gives him what he wants.
Besides the film, David Bowie portrays Jareth in two music videos. One for the song “Underground” and one for the song “As the World Falls Down.”
You Know According to the music video for Underground and Return to Labyrinth and hinted at in the Labyrinth novelization, Jareth has a human alter ego named Jeremy. In the novelization of Labyrinth Jeremy is the man whom Sarah’s biological mother, an actress, happened to run off with years before. In the novelization, Jeremy was an actor and co-star in a play in which Sarah’s mother had starred. In the novelization, Jeremy is the man who gave Sarah her music box, which in the book plays “Greensleeves,” and in the movie plays “As the World Falls Down,” the same song that Jareth uses to try to seduce Sarah while within his Labyrinth.
you know In the music video,”As the World Falls Down” Jareth has a more subdued form and his castle has the seeming look of an office though the double doors of a castle and the fact that Hoggle, the dwarf, is doing the cleaning tend to reveal that this is no typical place of business. Jareth pines for Sarah, and an older version of the Sarah pines for Jareth and her adventure within the Labyrinth but neither one seems quite willing to go to the other.
you know In the “Underground” music video, David Bowie seems to borrow the character of Jeremy from the Labyrinth novelization, the lover of Sarah’s estranged biological mother, and merged him as a sort of alter ego for Jareth, who seems to be struggling with a desire for a human life and his love of the magic and authority he has as Goblin King. In the video, we see Jeremy performing in a literal hole in the wall style nightclub. As he walks along after the performance, he finds himself seeing various strange creatures out of the corner of his eye, beings that lure him to the magical realm of the underground where he is their king.
Does Jareth resents his position as Goblin King and yearns for a different life, probably somewhere down in Soho according to rock legend David Bowie,
you Know by end of the film(As Sarah clears her dressing table, she seems confused about whether she has undergone the turning point in her life between childhood and adulthood. Hoggle appears, along with Ludo and Sir Didymus, as images in the mirror. They seem to be bidding her goodbye as she leaves behind the fantasies of childhood, but remind her that they will still be available “should you need us”. Sarah insists she presently needs them, whereupon they appear in her bedroom. The film closes as the Labyrinth’s creatures celebrate in her room. Outside, the owl Jareth watches the party and then flies away into the night.) Chances that, that will Happen to Toby
What are chances that Jareth was once motal. Like he was born in human world. or is he like a metaphysical being created by the Labyrinth
