Time to break the uncomfortable silence around here with another trip down memory lane to the early RtL concept art! This time, its the goblins Skub and Candlewic. With the Skub pictures, it’s interesting to see how much of a difference the eyes make. The version on the left is pretty close to the final version, while the one on the right, with the beady eyes, looks like he could have come from Froud’s sketchbooks!
This early version of Candlewic also looks a little more Froudian, but as wonderfully gobliny as he is, he’s not quite menacing yet. Going back through these old sketches, it makes me want to see Chris go wild with an all-goblin adventure!

aww, Candlewic looks so cute in this version. Have to admit that Candlewic kinda has that viking attire, yet the attittude looks too giddy. Can’t imagine Skub without his huge eyes. They are so innocent.
Candlewick looks unusually happy, it would have been funny to see Toby underestimate him because of his cuteness.
Candlewick looks more cuddly cute than hunky cute in this sketch. Which would have made Moppet’s crush even more hilarious, though.
Skub is cute (cuddly cute), period. No matter what version.
I’ve loved seeing the concept sketches, but I’d also like to see some previews of volume 4… *hint, hint*

there’s new art in the group album, I think it fan art, but it’s very well done! I’m really not sure if it’s the real deal, but there’s cover art for volume 4 that looks a lot like the others in style and color scheme.

Don’t worry too much about being scooped Jake, all the exclusives you’ve been posting here have been awesome, I assume Tokyopop received the cover directly from Shurei and were eager to post it so they could get some exclusive news and get some of the Labby fans to their site (I don’t know about anyone else, but I avoid the Tokyopop website like the plauge. I hate it’s design and I find it extremeley tiresome to navigate. Gobblin is the only place I go to get my RtL news).
Regarding the cover, it’s nice to see Sarah finally! (Though I can’t help but notice she’s showing off her cleavage…Maybe that’s why Jareth seems so happy in the pic?). Moppet looks nice too, but everyone seems to have the same dreamy expression on their face…I would’ve liked to have seen some more variety there, but the colour is really nice too.
Can’t help but think too, if the title is put in the same place as the last three covers (Centered in the bottom) Toby’s face might get a little cramped/lost underneath it.
