The Wizards of Labyrinth

When things get tough in the Labyrinth, who does Toby turn to next? Teen wizards! If anyone can stop Jareth’s plot, it’s Hogwarts grads. Okay, that’s not exactly what’s going on in this panel, but believe it or not, this is a piece of art from Return to Labyrinth volume 4. What does it have to do with the rest of the story? You’ll just have to wait, I’m afraid. Of course, you’re welcome to share your wild theories in the comments…

Update: As much as I enjoy the speculating, I figure I should probably point out that this panel has about as much to do with volume 4, as the Cheshire cat had to do with volume 3. ;) -JF

Whaaa????? Oh man. I’m thoroughly stumped. No idea what’s going on.

  2. Ginger says:

    Is… is that… Mizumi?

  3. Another Kelly says:

Theory 1: Moppet replaces Sarah and Toby gives her an amalgam of their memories.

Theory 2: This is like where Sarah flops on her bed, insinuating the movie was just a dream. Toby’s being shown a reality where all this stuff is just happening in real life.

Theory 3: Mizumi uses Sarah to infiltrate the real world and Toby’s just located her.

  4. Kristi O. says:

Maybe Mizumi’s power starts branching out into the Real World, where she mesmerises some local teens to hunt down Sarah?

Though the matter of that wand is somewhat pressing. It clearly has a handle, so it’s not just a plain stick someone picked up off the ground.

Have we ever seen Mizumi use a wand? I don’t recall, and I’m without my volumes so I can’t check.

Maybe Mizumi sent some random Wizard character (Complete with wand) to the real world to attack Sarah, but she and Jareth managed to defeat him, leaving behind only his wand. Jareth then whisks Sarah away to the Labyrinth, just before a group of teens, hearing the ruckus of a no doubt epic magic battle, come to investigate. Seeing nothing but an empty street, the teens begin to leave, until one of them (The girl) happens across the discarded wand and picks it up, producing the panel we see above.

  5. Tink says:

Either that or Mizumi’s splitting herself up again. “Hmm, let’s see…there’s one of you versus all of _me_.” Things aren’t looking too good. And, of course, Jareth is along for the ride because at this point he’s lost his bet and he has no choice. Whoopee.

  6. Another Kelly says:

If I were any of the heroes, I’d just off Moulin. That’d kill Mizumi by default. :P I couldn’t do it! I like that character a lot. *sniff*

LOL. Still, I like the “split Mizumi” idea, though one has to wonder if splitting makes her less powerful.

  7. Another Kelly says:

Sorry for the double entry, but a thought just occurred to me: Could it be the actors from the play at the beginning of Vol 1?

  8. Mollie says:

Wow, Jareth must have stolen a lot of babies!

  9. Maggie says:

Perhaps these are humans gifted with the ability to use magic. And they use their magic to defend humans from corrupt magic (like that of Jareth’s…) and they’re defending Sarah…
Must admit that the two front characters kinda remind me of Xmen, (I know that seems totally random, but I couldn’t help but notice…) great pic by the way, Kudos to Chris :)

  10. Kelly says:

Hmm… is one of those guys in the background Hoggle? Short with a wrinkled head…

    • Another Kelly says:

      Re: Backgound Hoggle …
Actually, it kinda looks like Sarah’s entire team, if they were human. The left stocky tall guy is Ludo. The second is obviously Teen Sarah’s silouhette, third is Hoggle. I guess the last would be a human Didymus.

  11. … Why do I have the urge to re-read all post entitled “The Goblin King’s Revenge”?

  12. DerrySue says:

maybe it is Mizumi and Esker as they would appear in their human forms for a final showdown with Jareth, Toby and Sara in the human world.

  13. Gelly says:

Perhaps Toby is having a dream….?

  14. Maggie says:

hmm, just noticed your note at the bottom, Jake. So, maybe one of those “What if” things that someone might say in a hopeless situation. I can imgaine Toby telling someone in his oubliette, “What if there were other magic teens that could save us?” Or maybe he’s imgaining how Sarah might have made her way through the Labyrinth in the movie. “What if Sarah was magic too, and she never told me!” idk just really random, caffeine induced thoughts.

  15. DerrySue says:

yes Maggie, I see now your point! As daydream or such about Sarah.

  16. Andi says:

Wait, wait a minute. Are these not the kids that were in the play at the beginning of the thing? :O

I think that’s who they are.

  17. Freak M says:

nice art… i hope to be done the intro by next munday… i have exames this week, and a 4 day vakay becausof theme, so… i probably will post it then…

  18. Jenny B. says:

Hey guys, did you know that Leona Lewis’ 2010 tour in the UK is going to be based off of Labyrinth? I’m not kidding!!! She’s a huge fan of the movie and wants to proudly show it in her tour!!!

    • Elizabeth L. says:

Look guys, I think that maybe this little sampling might be a red herring. Maybe Jake just has run out of stuff to show us that really is relevant to the book and this is just a preview for a different story that will appear in the back, like the dark crystal previews after the second (third?) book.

Besides i dont really see much of Mizumi in the girl, I more see her as a young Irene. I did like the idea that the shadowy figures in the background are sarah and the gang, that would make my brain leak out my ears from such a kick-butt reunion.

      That is all.

  19. ronin1983 says:

    what are their names?

P.S. I think she looks more like Selena Gomez with that wand
in her hand& the guy if he had black hair he would look a little like David Henrie
a.k.a I think they look like Justin&Alex from
Wizards of Waverly Place but I guess its a coincidence

  20. Lindsey McBratney says:

I agree with antother Kelly on this. I think it’s the gang. Oh I’s had a thought mabe it’s a sign os Sarah’s memories coming back to her in some way.

  21. Lindsey McBratney says:
