A Very Bishi Jareth

A while back Chris shared a sketchbook pinup of “Young Jareth.” Now Chris has finished drawing the chapter in which this version of the Goblin King features prominently. Here’s a peek!

bishijareth

Sometime soon I’ll do a count of how many pages feature Jareth in this volume. I have a hunch that it’s more than the previous three volumes combined.

    More Jareth = GOOD!

  2. Emma says:

Wow, Young Jareth looks… exactly like Jareth as he is now. XD

And of course we need to see what he’s been up to. It’s not really a Labyrinth story if Jareth isn’t chessmastering everything.

    I’m excited for this!

Something about Jareth’s head in this pic is really throwing me off…I can’t tell if it’s the construction of the head itself, or if it’s maybe just the shape of the hair that’s bugging me, but Jareth’s head looks very triangular.

I think part of it is due to those pesky bangs of Jareth, they frame his face in a way that your eye uses them to trace the outline of Jareth’s head, so they can easily mislead your eye and confuse you as to where Jareth’s skull is underneath all that hair.

That, and Jareth’s features get progressively smaller as they go lower on the face, helping to create the triangular shape.

Jareth has such an interesting hairstyle, but damn if it isn’t hard to draw convincingly. Still, Chris did a nice job here, Jareth definantly looks younger.

Do the assorted X’s on the clothing represent places where Chris wants a certain tone be added?

    • Jake Forbes says:

      Kristi,

Yes, the “x”s represent where the tone will be added. You can see it on some pics more than others. I kinda like the effect — it adds almost a textile pattern of its own!

    Pretty, pretty Jareth.

Jareth is so handsome. Of course, most of his charm comes from his personality. And when I say charm, of course I mean his wickedness. Thank you so much Chris and Jake for sharing this with us. = )

  9. Maggie says:

Jareth seems so less….manipulative in this pic. Almost like a child curious about the ways of the universe. And his eyes seem so embellished with charm. I also like the construction of his lips compared to that of volume 1 and volume 2. There’s not that lipstick look to them and they seem much more natural.
    Way to go Chris! :D

Nice! Looks a little less Aladdin than the last picture. ;)

    exacly!

  13. Andi says:

Hrm. Two things I hope come up in this chapter: What made Jareth so interesting in the film was his reaction to everyone. And, his wit and his whole demur towards being a Goblin King.

I only hope that comes about in this volume. :) It’s sad it’s the end. Cheers to volume 4!

Jareth really looks younger, and the X’s actually make his outfit look really cool. I must say Chris, you continue to exceed my expectations. Jareth looks absolutely gorgeous in this picture. In fact, I just may want him to marry me! He’s got such a mysterious look in his eyes and it’s so entrancing. Dare I say, almost seductive. BEAUTIFUL!

I can’t wait for Volume 4! All these preview sketches are making me want to draw my Labyrinth fanfiction! And I KNOW I won’t have to pay for Volume 4 because it’s apparently coming out right before my birthday! Yay me!

I definitely wont be disappointed this year. x3

Thanks so much, Freya, for the joining the conversation and for saying such nice things about RtL. I try post a pic a week for volume 4, so be sure to stop by often for updates.
