Returning to Labyrinth since 2007!

Chilly Down with Esker

When we last saw Esker, the muscle of the Moraine Kingdom, he had just been sent by Mizumi to hunt down and eliminate Moppet. This image of Esker comes from very early in the book during his hunt. The heavy lines and sinewy body are in sharp contrast to the way most of the Labyrinth cast are depicted. There’s something almost Mike Allred-y about this panel, and I love it. Nice work, Chris!

I love the cape action. That’s very important when dealing with pure scary awesomeness.

  2. Ginger says:

Great, now I have Chilly Down stuck in my head…

    Thanks for that, Jake.

  3. Maggie says:

Awesome pic! I’m digging the flourescent aura that swarms around his body, and the cape action is pretty sweet as Ashley first mentioned.
Is that line stretching across the top part of the panel something in the background? Or is it the edge of that panel, with a piece of the panel above is peeking out? It’s kinda hard to tell…

Maggie, the line at the top is another panel. Chris was getting creative with the layout here, having Esker’s cape break out of the panel. This is actually only half of a panel — in the finished version, you see who Esker is looming over.

    Love those smashed television/microwave/things. ;)

If this was in color it would make a fantastic wallpaper.

I gotta admit, Jake, I really like Esker. He hasn’t said much, but I always end up enjoying the Bounty Hunter type characters. It reminds me a bit about Boba Fett. [Who is one of my fav. Star Wars characters.]

I hope you don’t give him a lot of dialogue. Because it’d ruin the mysteriousnes he has. BUT, I do hope he has a few lines that are truly remarkable for his character.

There is going to be so much drama/angst/action in this last one – will it surprass the first three?

Esker looks awesome here, I can’t wait to see this in the manga! =)

Also, does anyone know where I can find a website, book, etc. that talks about the making of the movie Labyrinth or anything related to that? I’m doing a paper on it for English and really need some more sources, so any help would be much appreciated!! (PS: I already have the “Inside the Labyrinth” documentary down as a source)

Hmmm, you’ve seen the ‘making of’ on the movie, right? Find yourself the new two-disk collector’s edition, I think they have more info. The Goblins of the Labyrinth (the end) might also be useful. I remember writing papers like that ;) Good luck!

Ack, sorry for the double-post. The first one didn’t go through so I tried re-writing it and posting again. And thank you Tink and freak M for the advice! =)
