Last week’s Sarah-centric preview created quite a stir. Jareth is back again this week, only he’s sharing the stage with Mizumi. She seems all too happy to share the spotlight, but Jareth appears to have something else on his mind. Emotions aside, this week’s pic features yet another pretty costume debut! There are certainly a lot more dresses in this volume, aren’t there? By initial count (and not counting the cover), Toby, Moppet, Jareth, Sarah and Mizumi each get about three costume changes this time out. If there are any RtL cosplayers out there, this volume is the meatiest yet!

It looks like Mizumi’s fangirling as well. I’m guessing Jareth decided it might be fun to date her and had a rude awakening when he found Mizumi is OBSESSED with him (or more likely the idea of him).
This might sound a little creepy but maybe he met a young Sarah reciting the play and now can’t stop thinking about her.
Why doesn’t Mizumi just give up??? Don’t all people reach a point in their lives where they just accept that this (whatever or whoever it is) is never gonna happen so they can move on???
Jareths face looks like he is replaying every moment he’s had with Sarah and wondering;
A) Where it went wrong
B) How he can change it
and
C) He might also be wondering (or mentally complaining) about Mizumi’s infatuation with him.
Although I sound really heartless when I talk about Mizumi, I do feel bad for her. Nobody wants to live with rejection.

This is surely one of the bestest Jareth faces I’ve seen in RtL.
Ohhhh.. I can see the drawings are getting more “real”, as well as the tones~! I love seeing more art and progress in the story. As much as I want to draw stuff like these, I couldn’t even continue my own stories and projects… I also lost some motivation and inspiration whenever I’m free… OTL

I couldn’t help but notice that Mizumi’s headwear looks like Candlewic’s head…
And Jareth does look very contemplative, perhaps he is reflecting on something, and Mizumi is listening to the beautiful enigma that is Jareth’s thoughts.
And Mizumi’s dress looks more like the style of Jareth’s clothing, as opposed to the dress we see her wearing in the other volumes. Perhaps their married? Or perhaps she has modeled her clothes after his, like any fangirl might do…lol
Mizumi is looking at Jareth with utter adoration, but by the looks of things her emotion is not reciprocated by Jareth. It almost looks as if he is being forced to stay with her.
I think that this could this be when he started to distance himself from Mizumi – After all I believe V4 gives more details of their relationship, and that dress does look similar to the one she was wearing in v2′s flashback when she was talking about her and Jareths relationship and about and their magic being in sync.
Dear Mizumi, he’s just not that into you.
It looks like he’s putting up with her at the moment, or she has him caught (because he’s been gone from the Labyrinth) and now that he’s back, she won’t let him go. And she’s overjoyed by that.
Well, according to Mizumi, Jareth created the Labyrinth in order to break ties with the outer world, so he would have dumped her before making the Labyrinth.
Awwww Mizumi looks so happy with Jareth…makes me feel a bit sorry for the poor woman =(

It looks to me, that Jareth doesn’t seem to happy with Mizumi obsessing over him like a schoolgirl. I can’t blame her for that, Jareth is pretty hot. Was later or somewhere around that time Jareth meet Sarah and fell in love with her. Sarah was more of challenge for him. I guess he’s love that spirit so much (even if he’s try to break Sarah spirit)

@leelee719: I think Jareth doesn’t want “fangirl” types. In the ballroom, he has women all over him but he only seems to consider them … how to put it … not partners. Only Sarah has a face throughout, suggesting he’s starting to see her as a person. He takes off his mask to see if she’ll see the same thing. She gets away from him and he’s both disappointed and turned on, LOL.

Jareth and Mizumi both look a bit young here. Perhaps this is a moment from their previous relationship? And I’m not entirely sure, but it kind of looks like Mizumi’s laying next to Jareth (which really makes my thoughts wander, haha!).

You are correct! They’re both younger. This is a flashback scene, an expansion of what Mizumi hints at in volume 2.

On second thought, I’m getting “Misery” vibes, LOL. Jareth needs to make sure she doesn’t have a sledgehammer.
Maybe he’s not feeling the conection that he felt before? Maybe he knows that he’s not meant to be with Mizumi
o.o Hmm…I wonder if this is a flashback that Mizumi had or maybe even Jareth himself…or even quite possibly something that Sarah saw in the crystal ball that Jareth was showing her last time. This memory must have been when Jareth started closing himself off from everyone but before Mizumi betrayed Jareth. I wonder what it was exactly that she did. O_o Cheating on him doesn’t seem very likely seeing since she’s obsessed with him. Maybe something to do with gaining or taking power or maybe…this really was around the time that Jareth had seen Sarah for the first time (but before he challenged her to rescue her baby brother) and maybe Mizumi got overcome with jealousy and tried to hurt Sarah so Jareth canceled their engagement. LOL.
I really am reading way too much into this, sorry, I tend to overanalyze a lot of stuff. Anyway, I can’t wait to see if any of these predictions are true.
In my ficverse, she forcibly went into his mind with that magical water of hers to look into his memories and he resented it like one would resent nonconsensual … relations. I like that interpretation (though I’m dying to know what the official one will be) because it explains why Jareth lets Sarah break out of the ballroom — he realizes he’s done the very same thing to her.

Jareth is so used to getting whatever he wants but someone like that normally doesn’t understand what true love is. He must have confused his feelings for her as love. I mean he didn’t have to work hard at all to gain her affection, Mizumi’s done all but thrown herself at him. lol. Jareth is the type of guy who likes a challenge so when Sarah came along, she opened his eyes and understood the pain of love and rejection. He claimed that his “revenge” on Sarah would be “painful” but deep down I don’t think he would really want to hurt her. Maybe by painful, he meant that he wanted her to finally remember her old dreams of the Labyrinth, wanting to be an actress and about him. Maybe he sees this revenge plot as his last chance to get Sarah to fall for him. That might have been what his agreement with Mizumi was all about. He certainly sounded very confident about getting Moppet to fall in love with him, and in doing so, Sarah’s dreams would disappear as well as her “power” over him. The shard of power he came back for seemed to have restored his full power but maybe there’s more to it than meets the eye.
I was just thinking about this the other night and I think I have it. I think Mizumi was/is in love with this idealized version of Jareth and he gets tired of having to play along and keep living up to her expectations of who she wants him to be. So what does any intergalactic man of mystery do? He builds a riddle! The labyrinth is the entire contents of his heart, both good and bad; it’s like saying ‘I want you to love _me_ – all of me – not just the parts that you’re comfortable with. And she never gets it. But having his heart separated from him for a long time has unexpected consequences and he’s really twisted by the time that Sarah comes along. Sarah is much more openminded and forgiving than Mizumi and her imagination is virtually limitless. His heart likes her but he isn’t attached to it anymore so it all goes wrong.

Call me odd, but I’d like to see Jareth in a men’s dress.
I’m calling you odd but not in a bad way — I’d like to see that myself strangely enough.. . Although I have to wonder what classifies as a “men’s dress” in this situation.

i think mizumi was more in love with jareth’s power than him (sorry, only just finished volume 2 – and that’s what i got from reading it). maybe jareth realised this and decided he didn’t want to be with her because she did not love all of him?
