Gobblin.net began in December of 2007 as the unofficial source for Return to Labyrinth news and commentary. It’s since evolved into something a little less focused, so I’ve collected everything specific to Return to Labyrinth on this page for your convenience.

  • Birth of a Bureaucrat: the Spittledrum Supremacy — In which I discuss the process of creating the goblin mayor, complete with old concept art from before the series began.

I watched Labyrinth first when I was a kid and I couldn’t appreciate it as much as I do now. Because of the movie I’m a big fan of Bowie’s and of the story itself. I wish there could have been more movies though >< Oh well.

Scott, where there’s life there’s hope. Jake has breathed fresh life into Labyrinth. And David Bowie is still around, still singing and now doing a lot of animated voice acting… Hmm… manga to Anime adaptation anyone?

i only came accross the first book by jake t forbes by accident when i was aimlessly searching the net looking for some information or hope that someone was after continuing jareths tales, i was delighted, being an avid fan of david bowie for many years and i love the way his jareth charachter is portrayed, id bet he’d love it the artwork, conceptual design and commentary is fantastic i am delighted to have stumbled accross this marvellous find :)

I look over all these ‘details’ being added to the Labyrinth legend through this manga and am deeply saddened. It’s quite obvious that there’s a lack of true depth to what’s been made in this sequel and the charm of the story that Jim Henson imbued it with is becoming lost.

Love the series — I’m so glad to get a continuation of the story. Where are all the hopes for a new movie? There’s certainly no reason it can’t be done. I wouldn’t want an anime movie coming out of it, but the script possibilities are definitely there within this manga. With the new advancements in CGI, I’ve thought for years it should be possible to make sequels to movies such as this by using puppets for the creature characters and realistic CGI characters voiced by the original actors. Look at games like the new Ghostbusters games — the actors from older films can “magically” play their younger selves again!
My only gripe with the manga is that it definitely darkens the story. I love watching the movie with my kids, but I don’t feel I can share the manga with them until they are older.

Well, MJ, you obviously haven’t read the entire series, because you would have found hundreds of references to Jim Henson and David Bowie’s work. Perhaps not so much the first volume, but all the rest are chock full of these references.

I’m sorry that you don’t like the manga, but you’ve got to give it a real chance and get all your facts straight before saying that you don’t like it.

  7. Vince says:

When I first started to read this series I found that I had the same sweep of emotions and nostalgic feelings that i did when watching the movie. Jake in my eyes has captured the feeling of the world and characters that Henson created and really brought that same fantasy and mysterious feeling that labyrinth gave us to the manga’s. A little dis-hearted that
such a great series is ending so early but yet pleasantly satisfied with how its turned out so far. And to wrap up my comment all add that this could easy be made into a film , animation , or CG hands down.

Just read vol. 3 Loved it. I can’t wait for Vol.4!! Wouldn’t be cool if they made the an Animated movie for the books! And had David Boiw doing the voice of Jareth and Jennifer Connoly doing to voice of Sarah!

  9. Siiri says:

    Sooooo…when will #4 be out?

  10. Tink says:

I think when I get my grubby little hands on the fourth volume I’m going to have to take it home before I read it because I made the unthinking mistake of reading #3 in the bookstore and was consequently psychologically exhausted from getting to see what happened after the buildup of waiting so long. Dragged myself home. If there’s anybody else like me, the day the last one comes out is probably going to be an International Labyrinthian Nap Day. ;D

  11. Siiri says:

Labyrinthian Naps lead to Labyrinthian Dreams. :-D

    yes it dose!

  13. Jareth is a Sexy Beast!!! says:

  14. Freak M says:
