I think Candlewic could be an ablation Esker
the only evidence I have is the Coup d’état & whats a better spy then
    the one least Expect
Esker could be an unfinished abolation of Jareth it’s unlikely he’s connected to Candlewic
only reason I think Candlewic is connected Jareth becuse of
how moppet fawnd over him, I think what happen is the unfinished abolation of Jareth, turned out ugly, so she removed the ulgy part from him and that created Esker & the ugly part became Candlewic
as I’ve said the only evidence I have is the Coup d’état & whats a better spy then the one least Expect

    • Mandy says:

I honestly doubt a humanoid would produce a goblin ablation.

    • Booksketeer says:

I don’t think so; when Jareth had Mizumi to make Sarah’s abelation, he asked her if it hurt her. Wouldn’t he know that, if he’d had one himself?

  2. YaUKnow says:

    Did Moppet eat the peach?

  3. ronin1983 says:

    Jake. for Vol.4 of R2L
I think you can use the shoes in the jar allusion
because its within the pubic domain

  4. ronin1983 says:

you know I’ve got this gut feeling that at the theater he’s gonna grab a hold of her & pretty much bear his soul to her you know when & if he’s holding it looks like a hug but he tells her, why her & even if can’t see it from her angle; hes crying, but we can’t see it at her angle,
but when do we can tears in his eyes, from his angle only.
I’ve also got this feeling that there gonna make him look conflicted.
especially when it comes right down to Sarah.by Vol.4

I mean, think as Jake put it
by Vol.1 they made him look venerable,by Vol.2 made him look vulnerable, by Vol.3 made him look seductive,
by Vol.4 I think they may make him look conflicted or heroic
which can sometimes be a small sign of redemption

  5. ronin1983 says:

hey guys, chances that what Mizumi said about their love? I’m thinking they were introduce to each other, for the idea of synergy?
could that be a reason for anything?

  6. ronin1983 says:

Jake, what are the chances that Mizumi would use the Silver bullet:Strategy to turn everyone obviously against Jareth & obviously Toby?
I am thinking among the lines that she would point out their flaws just to look better then them by comparison.it is also among the lines that she would use that to make the goblin people turn against &lynch Jareth&Toby? maybe she would have used it to turn Toby against Jareth?

  7. Mandy says:

Ronin, calm down! Caaaaaalm down. I know you’re excited but most people don’t know what you’re talking about. I barely know and I was in E-mail correspondence with you over a week.

I think we should retreat back in to ye old forgotten topic of what is Jareth?

Well, if we’re going by Brian Froud intended then yes, Jareth is a type of faerie. He has all the powers, beauty and style of a faerie or Sidhe of Froud’s early books. Including the conjuring of orbs much like Froud’s now famous illustration of Mab (on the back cover or ‘bad side’ of his Good Faeries / Bad faeries book).

By faerie I don’t mean he’s a small winged pixie but rather a humanoid being of pure magick. Remember, the Banshee in Irish folklore is a faery. from Ban-Sidhe. A sidhe was a being of pure magick, a supernatural entity that resembles human. Beautiful, dangerous and powerful much like the various creatures blanketed in Japanese youkai.

  8. Mandy says:

I don’t think Mizumi has the means to ‘brainwash’ everyone into seeing things her way. I think she’s already taken over in the fullest way she was going to. But you and I had this conversation in private already.

    • ronin1983 says:

I’m not talking about ‘brainwashing’ everyone into seeing things her way

    • YaUKnow says:

Mizumi doing the dictators way. Do what I say or die.

    • ronin1983 says:

I’m not talking about ‘doing the dictators way’everyone into seeing things her way

    • ronin1983 says:

What I’m trying to talk about is something that would involve the InuYasha Episode “The Suspicious Faith Healer and the Black Kirara”
but what I’m really talking about is a strategy district attorneys, use prosecute offenders.

Your not even gonna netpick my “maybe she would have used it to turn Toby against Jareth?”

    • Mandy says:

I doubt there’s going to be an Inuyasha reference. They don’t have legal right to it. It doesn’t fit anyway.

    • ronin1983 says:

look its more among the idea
that she’ll say that because shes more powerful then them, that they should turn their anger&blame at the formal king; because she’ll go on how he was a tyrant his during, how he abandon them in their time of need &bring up how hes now powerless.

    • Mandy says:

Ehh… Considering how she’s already treated them I doubt they can so eaisly be dooped. This isn’t the Nightmare before Christmas 2 Oogie’s revenge video game.

  9. Mandy says:

Woah, some of these posts are showing up way out of order.

  10. ronin1983 says:

Jake can you get away with any more Easter Eggs, or Pop Culture References
    for “R2L”
or are you allowed to reference,to use things that are in the public domain, things that nobody cares about?

  11. Emma says:

All right guys! I had a wonderful idea for what happens next while the site was away.

Toby’s kingdom just got taken over by a rather complex scheme. Logic stands that to have any hope of getting it back, he and his friends need some sort of plan. Since Hana and Stank are still free, I think they’ll probably find Moulin at some point. She can probably get Toby free, because the chain has to be removed by Mizumi and Moulin probably counts as ‘Mizumi’. So… that happens, and then they go back to Moraine, which is currently occupied by apparently nobody to regroup and form a plan.

…OK, probably not. But it would make sense for them to do that from a logical standpoint.
This being Labyrinth, logic probably won’t apply too much.

    • ronin1983 says:

woundn’t that almost be a reference
Avatar: (season 3) when the kids are hiding out on Ember Island
      at Zuko’s vacation/beach house
but then again hiding out in the place nobody expects
      is a universel reference.
& its alot better then my reference to
the”The Shawshank Redemption” you know discovering a tunnel that Toby had made his escape through the other night. The night before, then broke into a sewage pipe & escape. is that within the public domain, is that now universel reference?
digging a tunnel to escape, then braking into a sewage pipe & escapeing through it

    • Mandy says:

I think that was a coincidence, Ronin. The same thing happens with the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter.

And escapes like that long predate Stephen King. Stephen King is not that original. His Needful Things is very much like Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked this way comes.

And I don’t really see what Avatar having something vaguely similar to a SK novel has to do with anything.

  12. Booksketeer says:

You know, I forget; first, did Jake say outright what Jareth was? I mean, I always assumed he was a goblin, because…well, he’s the king. Secondly, didn’t he have pointed ears in the movie? I remember the eyebrows being very fey-like, but-hmm, now that I think about it, I think his hair covered his ears.

    • Mandy says:

Bowie’s ears were not augmented for the film however a lot of illustrations by fans and others give Jareth slightly pointed ears. Jake, himself, wouldn’t be the source to know what Jareth is. In this case the source would be the creature man himself- Brian Froud. And by Froud’s definition, yes, Jareth is a faerie. Note the two links I already provided. Particularly the one faery woman holding the peach in one hand and the crystal orb in the other with the barn owl behind her.

I sincerely hope the manga remains true to Brian Froud’s conceptions of lore. (Note the attached Faerie picture by Brian Froud).

If you have ever watched Disney’s Gargoyles you see the sidhe as the ruling class of the magical races, king Oberon, Titania, and his servant Puck. This is a fine example of the type of Faerie Jareth would be considered. They’re extremely beautiful, and VERY powerful. Dangerous yet charming and also… very human in their personalities and emotions. They are vulnerable only to iron.

  13. Booksketeer says:

Lol. I forgot a few more questions I had-

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Jareth basically stole Sarah’s dreams by having Mizumi make that abelation, right? Is that the reason she doesn’t remember the Labyrinth, I wonder? I admit, I was anxiously awaiting the time Sarah was reunited with her friends from there, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. I feel sorry for them. There’s really too many questions to type at once, and I really wish they’d okay a fifth book…I’m going to miss eagerly waiting for the next one. Though not like what happend with the third book; I think the booksellers were getting annoyed with me.

    • ronin1983 says:

wouldn’t very very few fans be angry if they made a fifth book?

      • Jake Forbes says:

Part of me wishes I could do a fifth book, as there are story directions I had to cut in each volume, but it’s definitely going to be a 4 volume series. We’re too far along in the volume and it is reaching a conclusion. Thanks for the support, though!

        • Mandy says:

Yay! The shipper in me really wants Jareth and Sarah finally together. I don’t think it would harm the end of the film at all considering Jareth’s purpose to the story is now different. I just hope it’s not like Doctor Who Series 4 which attempted to appease everyone. The shippers and the non-shippers and in the process no one was satisfied. Rose and the Doctor-Dona clone. Bleh!

          • Marissa says:

Jareth/Sarah shippers ftw!!! :) Although love for a Toby would be nice.

Would you rather see Jareth & Sarah rule the Labyrinth or Toby & a queen? I’m not even sure how I feel about Jareth & sarah staying or going. On one hand, Jareth WAS the heart of the Labyrinth, but Toby has taken that over now – at least as far as the readers know. Is it time for Jareth to move on completely from the walls he built around himself? Can he actually move on?

          • ronin1983 says:

I felt the same way when Cyclops married Emma Frost
by the end of X-Men: The End (comics)

        • ronin1983 says:

Jake could you get away with a kid wearing a shirt that has
“Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem” writen on it

        • DerrySue says:

Why can’t you do more RTL? Does this mean once this is done it is done? If so that makes me sad.

          • ronin1983 says:

Ironicly I have a theory about this,
companies retire and introduce things more quickly, usually on an annual basis, in order to shorten merchandise lines.

that so sounds wrong on so meny levels XP

          • Jake Forbes says:

Once volume 4, the story started in Return to Labyrinth is done. That doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be other Labyrinth stories, whether sequels prequels or barely tangential side stories. Only the future will tell. At the very least, Arachia comics mentions Labyrinth in their press release for future comics.

          • ronin1983 says:

I feel a double Irony for saying this
but by shorten this, it keep them popular for decades?

    • Emma says:

Yeah, Sarah’s dreams are now Moppet. Since it’s kind of implied that her dreams are the things that let her go to the labyrinth, it makes sense that she can’t remember it now.
Kind of sucks for both her and Moppet.

    • Mandy says:

Considering what’s going down right now at the end of volume 3 I think Sarah is going to meet up with her old friends in volume 4. We know they’ll appear in volume 4 and it’s obvious Sarah is getting more involved so logic dictates that they’ll have their happy reunion after all, perhaps once her memories are restored.

      • Jareth says:

I kinda hope when Sarah finds out what Jareth did to her, she knock him out. I love it when a woman knows how to throw a punch. That so hot.

    • Mandy says:

I theorize that what is taken to make an ablation can heal and regenerate. Going by the mythos of The Dresden Files novels when a piece of a soul is taken that soul can heal and regenerate. Everything taken to make a human-like ablation are things we can regain if it’s lost. Hope is lost, we find new hope. Dreams are lost, we create new dreams. I think the song lyric in the original film now acts as a key. ‘In search of new dreams.’ For Moppet to be able to survive separately Sarah needs new dreams.

  14. ronin1983 says:

some of you may mad at me especially you Jake, but
Immortel (ad vitam) was a film that combines live action footage with computer animation
+Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were made to look 20 years younger through “digital skin grafting” for X-Men the last Stand

    is that Important to anything?

    • jess says:

That stuff always looks fake, though. I don’t see the big deal with a recast, personally. I love Bowie more than you can conceive, but different perspectives on a character can always be refreshing. Getting too married to an actor in a role that you’d like to see continued does a disservice to the story and character, in the end. If the writing and characters are vibrant enough, the human playing the part should be malleable. That’s why it’s called “acting,” but that seems to be something getting lost in an age where a generation needs continually renewal of the properties and stories they love.

    • Mandy says:

Patrick Stewart looked awful in Wolvermine: X-Men Origins. I’d rather an anime style film if this is adapted into a film. That way Bowie could continue to be Jareth.

    • YaUKnow says:

Why does the hero (Toby) needs a girlfriend?

      • Jareth says:

It’s because theses girls here thinks that us guys need them to do the right thing or figure things out. Just to let you females know, us guys don’t need a girlfriend to get things done. No defense to non nagging and or needy females (Ones who are desperate for a boyfriend) out there.

        • ronin1983 says:

          That’s cold man
but what do I know, where I’m from people only date to get married\start a family
which I have been telling my family for years is beyond backwards
& I have made it abundantly clear to them that I’m not gonna date or drink until I’m on my ________

          • Jareth says:

            Where do you live Utah!?

          • Jareth says:

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with that. But how do you really know what you want in life if you don’t leave your comfort zone.
Kinda reminds me what’s going on with Sarah. When her dreams were taken awake, she never seem to leave her little comfort zone. Always staying on the safe side.

  15. kevana says:

and what about prophecy? Isn’t that important? I’m sure yes…

  16. ronin1983 says:

look what I grab from wikipedia(animated feature-length films compiles animated feature films from around the world and is organized alphabetically under the year of release (the year the completed film was first released to the public). Theatrical releases as well as made-for-TV and direct-to-video movies of all types of animation are included.

In order to qualify for this list, films must be “over 40 minutes long and have animation in at least 75% of their running time, or have at least 40 minutes of animation in total.” This list chooses to use the AFI, AMPAS and BFI definitions of a feature film. The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature requires that a film be at least 70 minutes long; however, this definition is historically inconsistent (for example, some films from the early days of Disney animation are less than 70 minutes long, with the shortest length belonging to Saludos Amigos at 43 minutes). For marionette films like Team America: World Police, or films featuring non-animated puppets, see Films featuring puppetry. Also, primarily live-action films with heavy use of special effects are not included.) Jake I give you full OK to delete repy.

    • Mandy says:

What does that have to do with anything?

    • ronin1983 says:

That appertently if the animation was done in Asia it’s an anime
but, if the animation was done in America it’s called animated?
or I was trying to find some common ground, you know we’d go & say.
Man who 773H is in charge of Wiki

    • Mandy says:

Labyrinth is unlike anything else. Efforts to find out how it’ll end from other works of fiction just of the same genre won’t work. It doesn’t work with anime and it doesn’t work with books. Finding the answer from other fictions is almost like saying you already know this author must be uncreative and using ideas from other sources for his plot.

  17. Marissa says:

I don’t think Toby necessarily NEEDS a girlfriend. But doesn’t everyone deserve a chance at love?

  18. ronin1983 says:

what are the chances that by the of this Moppet will have turned
into parallel dimensional counterpart of Sarah?

by the way, wanna know what a running gag is in American animated martial arts shows is,when fighter created copies of themself, each had their own personality,

by the way in the show “Legend of the Dragon”
the Shadow Dragon band fuses with the Golden Dragon (yin & yang) band and the former becomes a second Golden Dragon band, meaning ___________are now twin Golden Dragons.

    does that matter ?

    • Mandy says:

Why bring up martial arts running gags (that I’ve never seen) when there are none in Return to Labyrinth?

    • ronin1983 says:

the running gag, is when fighter created copies of themself, each had their own personality.
it was in 7 of seven,Xiaolin Showdown&only once in “Legend of the Dragon”

    • Mandy says:

I get the running gag but it has nothing to do with anything here.

    • ronin1983 says:

fighter created copies of themself, each has their own personality

    • Mandy says:

ronin1983, please, stop flooding my E-mails with the very things you post here. It’s almost as if you just want me to answer twice. Once here and once in private.

I’d love for Moppet and Sarah to co-exist but not for Moppet to exist as a ‘version of Sarah.’ She’s got too much of her own personality. What is needed is for Sarah to replace the part of her that Moppet used to be. I think that will be the way.

  19. Marissa says:

Toby doesn’t NEED a love interest but afterall, doesn’t everyone deserve a chance at true love?

  20. ronin1983 says:

Does Mizumi have the Ability to turn partially or completely into a liquid
or to transform into a gaseous, mist, or fog-like form, or is just able to bodily transform herself into a watery liquid substance?

  21. Emma says:

I agree that Toby probably isn’t the ‘true heir’, but… man, it’d suck for him to have to go back.

I know I’ve said it before, but he really did seem to hate his life back on earth. It would be nice if things were resolved in a way that he could stay.

  22. Booksketeer says:

Wow, did that last comment I made show up in the wrong spot.

  23. Nike says:

Hey! That post was supposed to show up under Booksketeer’s last post! I hate how these things keep showing up in the wrong places, and out of order! There must be something wrong the code or something…

  24. ronin1983 says:

Can’t wait until vol.4 so I can stop overstimating
just thinking about the fact that something we never thought of or the expected could happen; driving me crazy, but hey
    never underestimate anyone or anything
    -universal- or
when you hear hoofprints in Central Park don’t expect to find Zebras
    -NY-
I may overestimate alot, but a bigger mistake is underestimating things

  25. Dave says:

I learned of this series in January, bought it in July and August, and now I’m up to date.

Holy CRAP this is a good sequil!

  26. Dave says:

I’m not sure if this has already been addressed, but is Return to Labyrinth considered cannon by the Jim Henson company?

    Forgive my spelling :)

    • Nike says:

Dave, considering that they have authorized this sequel, and stamped their logo on every volume, it is probably safe to assume it is. As far as I know, they haven’t released anything that would be in direct conflict with what is portrayed in this sequel.

  27. Vince says:

    I would like some nachos…yes

  28. Hoggle says:

I don’t usually participate in web discussions, but I am such a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth I want to do 2 things:

First: THANK YOU!! For coming up with the sequels, I love them! I could speculate on the ending, but I fear that, as a writer, I would be too good at the prediction and definitely don’t want to spoil it.

Second: On the cake thing, the saying is referring to the fact that you consume the cake, therefore it is gone. So you can’t have (keep) the cake. When you eat it, it’s gone. Hence…you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Hey, I didn’t say it was a great saying.

Also – love the theory that Jareth is a faerie, works really well. Clever.

Can’t wait for book 4! Speed up the deliver!

    • Nike says:

Thank you for shedding light on that! Sometimes I wish english wasn’t so darn ambiguous… it did actually make sense…Sigh.

    • Booksketeer says:

Lol. Thank you very much! I never really thought of it like that-in which case, it does make perfect sense.

  29. Caterina says:

This is my first time posting, so bear with me. From what I’ve gathered by reading the manga:

Jareth will lead Sarah through a series of ordeals that will probably cause her to remember the Labyrinth without destroying Moppet, or at least giving her enough of what was taken back so she’ll be able to help. Despite the fact that Moppet is made of Sarah’s dreams, she’s bitten from the peach at least once which makes me wonder if it would be possible for Sarah to gain what Moppet has lost memory wise. Somewhere in the vol. 4 Jareth will reveal he loves Sarah. Sarah, and probably Jareth, will return to the Labyrinth and beat Mizumi. Dealing with the prophecy, it’s already started but will probably come to fruition with Jareth and Sarah finding love for each other, and Jareth likely taking the throne back, but keeping Toby as his heir to one day take the throne…or possible Moppet, since she’s part of Sarah.

As for Toby needing a girlfriend he’s what, thirteen?, that seems very young for worrying about finding love. As Sarah proved at fifteen with her first trip through the Labyrinth, it’s too young an age to really grasp the depth of that feeling.

    • Nike says:

Caterina, you probably didn’t see it, but in the older posts, Jake confirmed that Toby is 17, not 13.

      • Booksketeer says:

When exactly did Sarah lose her dreams? It wasn’t right after she ran the Labyrinth, because the books say Jareth was fine for a while, and then things started to progressively go downhill. Also, Toby remembers Sarah reading and acting stories out for him, and I don’t think she’d do that pre-Labyrinth. So did she remember and keep in contact with her friends from the Labyrinth until her dreams were taken, or did she just never call them, and now she’s got an excuse?

        • Jake Forbes says:

          Booksketeer (cool name, BTW),

Any questions about the timeline should be pretty clear in volume 4. Until the book’s out, I don’t want to talk too much about the mystery myself, but others here have had some good theories!

          • Booksketeer says:

Oooh, story teases. Downright mean, man. lol. I’m holding you to your word, Jake. If I have any questions…um, I guess I’ll just have to come back here and annoy you. :D

  30. Kayla says:

I’m so excited for Volume 4! Does anyone know when its projected release date is? Also, I just want to say that I’m not so sure I want Sarah and Jareth to end up together. At first I wanted them to end up together, till I decided Jareth was just plain too sadistic for Sarah. Here’s a basic list why:
    1. Jareth had an ablation made that took away Sarah’s dreams. That’s terrible! He basically changed Sarah’s identity so he could have her for himself!
    2. He made Toby his heir, without even asking Toby if that’ s what he wanted. Furthermore, Jareth made a deal with Mizumi saying that at the end of 13 years she would get the Goblin City, the Labyrinth, and the King, who is now Toby. In other words, Jareth has just wrecked Toby’s life.
    3. Also, Jareth turned Cob the Exile into a worm, which was both cruel and unusual. Obviously, what Cob did to get exiled hasn’t been revealed yet, but still, Cob has been exiled for quite a while now, which if you ask me is harsh enough punishment for most any crime.

  31. LadyMidnight81 says:

I am just going to throw this randomly thought of idea I got about it out there, I think that Mizumi is an abalation of Jareth’s, haven’t decided which part of him she would be, but it doesn’t really matter as I’m probably wrong, but she said that he built the labyrinth ro keep everyone, to keep her away from him….so he built it to keep that part of himself away from him…..weird idea, I know it’s wrong, because then it would bring all sorts of ideas about can ablations make ablations of themselves and so on, still think at least Esker is an ablation of Mizumi though, but like I said in another thread I’m usually wrong about stuff like this……btw thanks for this page to discuss things, it’s not perfect, but nothing is, and it’s better than having half discussions all over multiple threads, so thanks…

  32. LadyMidnight81 says:

I think that Jareth’s playing a game with everything and everyone, it’s what he does, he’ll get the throne back, he never intended Toby to keep it in the first place, he was creating a distraction so he could go get his revenge and so on, hopefully 4 will have a happy ending that us fangirls want, but since the whole thing is much different than I imagined, and much better than I thought, since most sequels aren’t especially when it’s a different media than the oriignal, any happy-ish ending that doesn’t involve major character, original canon I mean, death or a terrible cliche, the ‘oh, it was only a dream’ one comes to mind, among others, I’ll be satisfied

  33. ronin1983 says:

Is anyone here familiar with Jigoku Shōjo?
the last episode of season 3 could have an answer.

  34. ronin1983 says:

I’m thinking that to get a release date or plot we would have to get inside his mind
I of course am talking about reviweing his past posts

    or useing Numerology i.e. 42 or 23

  35. ronin1983 says:

why am I worried that when vol.4 the grandfather paradox
    or predestination paradox will happen?

As I pondered over the meaning of this item, it’s orgins, and where the Goblin found an internetcourse for the small and silly, I began to theorise (theorize? Theoime?… Think of…) about the possiblitity of a typing error… albeit it a bit strange one….

Does anyone have an idea what this mysterious items is? The Gobblin insn’t saying much….

It has been very quite here now. How sad.

      4 jareth
would Mars be the appropriate lie for Alaska

Secondly do you think thats what we think when we read
how insane do you think we are
nobody is looking at this as hope for a nomal relationship
      & most

  38. By the way, all you girls (especially Mandy, no offence) should lay off Jareth. He’s happily married (To me obviously) and he despises all the flurries of girls who want him.

  39. Silvia says:

I just wanted to be sure as to what the second half of the prophecy says since there’s one letter that seems to bug me (I’m terrible at reading cursive):

“When friends are foes (I’m assuming that’s what it says since the word runs off into the bind of the book)
    and family lost,
and prince past (I can’t make out the first letter of this) into
    dark abyss,
    The Labyrinth and
rightful heir shall be restored by
    true love’s kiss.”

That being said….well. Seeing as the only thing left for that prophecy to be fulfilled is the kiss….I guess I can only hope for some Jareth/Sarah time.

  40. Alex Neeley says:

Incidentally, have any of you ever wondered where Candlewic and Spittledrum were during the original “Labyrinth” movie?
‘Cause Sarah obviously didn’t encounter either of them.
(True, Candlewic as he exists now was only created a few years ago, and no one had even THOUGHT of Spittledrum back then, but it still bears questioning.)

  43. Lunyka says:

That saying has to do with Ms. Antoinette. Read more about her to understand it please.

Also with these books, I realized that the plot line is really close to a fanfiction I read a long time ago. Also no offence, they either should have let the artist who did the cover do the inside of it too or they should have let the artist who did the inside do the covers.

I got these books because I was a major fan of the film and why did you guys rename Merlin as Pendragon? There are also some mistakes with the continuation of the movie to these books and well it kinda disappoints me.

    • Jake Forbes says:

Lunyka, Regarding the dog, as the series takes place 15 years after the movie, I figured poor Merlin would have passed away, and kept the new pets (Pendragon, Morgan) in the same vein as an homage to good Merlin.
As for the covers featuring a different artist from the interiors, I have to disagree there. As wonderful as it would be to have Kouyu Shurei draw the interiors, that was never a realistic option. I think it’s great to have someone as amazing as her draw the covers. I really don’t understand the objections to having having a different artist for the covers and interiors. It’s standard practice throughout comics publishing for works that aren’t single-creator driven, and in most forms of media (movies, novels, games, whatever), package/poster design is an art in and of itself, so why not get the very best you can?
It’s true that Shurei started the series as a veteran creator with an incredible degree of professional skill, whereas Chris and I were just beginning our careers, but I hope that by volume 4, the whole package feels up to snuff to readers. Thanks for sharing. I hope my responses helped explain a bit better where I was coming from at least.

      • Lunyka says:

Well my dad did get a dog a year before I was born and well it passed away when I was 17 (the dog was 18) so I guess that Merlin could have still been alive depending on how old the dog was. If it was more then a few years older then Toby then yeah I can see the dog dead.

Well I’ve noticed that even with comics who have a whole group working on them there is ussually only one artist who will do the cover and the inside. Basically what I’m saying is that Chris probably could have come up with some awesome cover pages no? I’m not trying to insult him or anything but I just think that it is silly to have an artist just do the cover pages. The cover pages are awesome yes but in some ways it almost feels like false advertisement. It almost feels like someone said that his artwork was not good enough for the cover and went to go find a better artist for the cover to make it look prettier when to be honest I think that Chris probably would have been able to come up with some good covers as well.

I guess is that what I’m saying is that it is silly to have two artists for one to only do such a small yet rather important part of the comic while the other one just does all the rest. Maybe one of these days we’ll be able to see Chris’s interpretation of the covers?

    • Nike says:

Lunyka, no one was discussing Marie Antoinette’s famous words, “then let them eat cake.” (I believe this is what you were referring to, but please correct me if I’m wrong.)

The discussion had been over the phrase “have your cake, and eat it, too.” There was some confusion over what was meant by “have your cake.” (It was a matter of whether “have” was interpreted as “consume” or “possess.”) Though the comments are scattered, it was resolved.

  44. Nic says:

    Hi all!
is my first time posting and is basiclly just to say that I have just finally got a copy of the 3rd volume and loved it! Can’t wait for the forth to be released and see how it all winds up! :)

  45. Rachel says:

Wow, there hasn’t been a post on this discussion page for a while. Calling all Return to Labyrinth fans! I’d be extremely happy to discuss Return to Labyrinth with people who love it as much as I do! Any thoughts on whether or not Sarah and Jareth will get together? I know we all want it to happen, but it’s hard to tell if it will happen sometimes. After Volume 3, I’m especially anxious on their relationship, lol.

  46. Criseen says:

hmmmmm, it seems to have been while since you RTL fans have posted here…. am i missing somthing, theres a volume 4 discussion page now isnt there…….. could someone plz direct me there?

Well, if any one ever gets back on and reads this be prepared for my completely crazy fangirl hopes!

first of all, the theater… im sorry but has noone thought that Sarah’s little dream sequence in volume three (where shes in a theater and Jareth is doing his little poem thing) could be a foreshadowing to the Enigma lain theater in volume four?
I think that would just be pretty amazing.
Second of all the proficy! I really like what Silvia said earlyer about the proficy… i dont have my copy of the book right now so i cant check for my self, but that would really make since if thats what happened, though its a little vauge i would venture to say that it means Jareth/Sarah… no?
Lastly, Historys….. though i must admit i feel bad (only the very smallest bit) for Mizumi, she really cant get over her self? its obvious that Jareth dosent want her, hince the labyrinth, plus it had to be like, atlest 20+ years since the realationship ended.
And conerning Jareth, what he is and stuff, i kinda just decided that hes a fae and has a soft side…

    anyway ttylz ppl!

    • Nike says:

Criseen, I have never seen a discussion page for volume 4. Since vol. 4 isn’t out yet, I think this page was intended for all of our speculation.

  47. Criseen says:

ok serriously this thing is like not letting me post

  48. Netag says:

hello am new to this please bear with thought this a good ending to the series ……… boots walking across the floor jumps to a shot of Jareth walking into a room (the one were he tried to hide the baby in Labyrinth) leans on wall a soft look comes to his eye you see who’s in the room. Sarah and Moppet are sitting with their legs hanging down from one of the platforms talking, a goblin and Sir Dittumis are playing scrable and Toby,Ludo and Hoggle are playing with a little girl with long dark hair and blonde streeks. Jareth takes a few more steps into the room the little girl turns around and we see her face is basicly the same as Sarah’s but her eyes are the exact same as Jareths we zoom in on the eyes and the girl cries out Daddy!!. I Know it sort of pleases all but still it would be nice if this happened in the real book.

ps i suggest that Jake doesn’t reply to this as he may give the ending away

  49. Keiryn says:

Hello! I’m so glad t talk about RTL with you!! (Sorry I don’t speak english very well- I’m spanish-)
Well, first of all, I think Toby don’t need a girlfriend, but, anyway, it would be beautiful to see him in love, isn’t it? I mean, sincerely, I WANT to see Toby in love with Moppet (don’t think here will be too much people who think in the same way as me, but I want it to happen!!) I know it is very weird (Toby in love with his sister’s ablation??) but, think about it, if Moppet were a normal girl (or goblin), it will be very possible fot them to be together. In the first book the dance toghether, the same as Jareth and Sarah in the film, in the second he rescued her when she felt down of the tower and then she held him (I was delighted with that part) and in the third when he says that he wants Sarah to be the same as when he was a baby, she cried and runned away, I think she was already in love with him, and when she stole the peach and she ate it she did it because she wants Toby to be happy, no matter what. So I think it could be possible, if they find the “other way” Mizumi was talking about at the en of the third…
And talking about Jareth/Sarah, well, I agree with you, I strongly think they should be together at the end, in the film Jareth seems so in love with Sarah, and, in the dance, she looks at him like she were hipnotized (and who not??^.^)
One question: When is the 4th book published???? I’m so impatient!!!! I want to read it NOW!!! :(

    • Netag says:

Hey Keiryn I actually think your right about Toby and moppet (that would be cool) Sarah and Jareth same Thing Plus the 4th one Comes out in august (soooooooooooooo far away !!!!!!!!!) The thing with Jareth being Betrayed is possible But I a thought He was upset that Hoggle was faring a better relationship with Sarah then he was

  50. Keiryn says:

In the film when Hoggle and Jareth are talking about Sarah and Hoggle sais “she said we were…” and Jareth sais “What? inseparable companions?… friends?” don´t you think he seems to have a hidden past, like he was betrayed by a friend?I don’t know it’s true, of course, but… It seems to me that…

    • Isis says:

o.o that’s a big possibility but i always thought that maybe jareth never really had any friends and therefore envied hoggle.
